Compulsory English writing course has been structured to provide an effective curriculum for developing English writing skill necessary for scoring good marks in the WBCS Compulsory English Paper. The goal of this course is to learn how to write a simple, coherent, and grammatically correct English text and give you enough practice before the real exam. Students often make mistakes, and during exams; anxieties and limited time constrain exacerbate the already worse situation. Unfortunately, most of the time we are not aware of our common mistakes unless a pair of experienced eyes scrutinies our English. Learning objectives of this course
There is no end to better writing, it is a continuous process, and there is always a room for improvement. The English writing course will be beneficial to both beginners and experts. It has been designed to provide an unprecedented opportunity to students to practice enough, and eventually make them more powerful than ever before. Benefits include but not limited to –

How long is this Course?
This Course will last for six to seven months. Altogether there will be 10 Full-length Practice tests.

The idea is to progress slowly so that you get enough room to develop your writing skill, your common mistakes and eventually rectify them. In the initial phase, we will focus on your grammatical mistakes and construction of sentences. The second part will more concentrate on style, content writing, crafting creative ideas.
How do we add value to your learning?
Every student is different, and so is her learning curve. Our students come from a diverse background with a contrasting level of English competence. Therefore, we treat each student differently, on a case-by-case basis.

We assess your level
Our first task is to assess your level of English proficiency. To do this we have designed a small warm-up activity, ask you to write on a simple topic. We carefully go through your answer paper to get an overview of your shortcomings. In a small summary, we warn our students about their common mistakes and provide suggestions how to overcome these deficiencies. This also prepares our students well before the actual course starts.

Our Course plan
In the first two or three sets, we will provide guidance for writing each answer. For example, a question on a letter to the editor will contain hints, critical ideas, a tentative line of thinking, crucial keywords, to assist your writing. As we progress we will take off these lifelines and gradually allow your independent inner-self to take over. Students are always, however, encouraged to write independently from the day one.
How does an expert writer benefit from this Course?
Unfortunately, practice is never enough. Never let complacency to take over. There is always a room for improvement, and this is true for every one of us. We respond to an expert writer with a higher level feedback. We strongly believe, getting constructive evaluations on ten sets of WBCS pattern questions will already convert an expert writer to a pro. It will remarkably increase the confidence level of a candidate. Every mark counts, it does not matter where it is coming from. Experts will benefit from achieving perfection, spontaneity in constructing ideas, keeping a strict eye on a word limit, and eventually increase the score by 15 to 20%. Sometimes getting a good score in English may cushion your risk of falling out in case an odd exam goes unexpectedly wrong.
Our experience
We conducted a series of Compulsory English Mock tests before the Mains 2017. It was a big success. We received exceptionally high approval rating from our students. Our careful remarks in between the lines, suggestions, and model answers worked as an eye opener for the students. In the course of our journey, we equally learned from our students. Our interactions with students provided a source of insightful understanding of their needs, eventually helped us to establish an effective curriculum.
